Secondary InfertilitySecondary infertility can be a most surprising and decidedly unwelcome visitor. If you've had a baby without any fertility problems (or fertility cycles), when it's not happening easily, it can take a while for it to sink in.

Wanting Another Baby & Secondary Infertility

If you're like most of us, you simply figure it will just take one more month. At some point though, you realize that one more month has turned into eighteen more months. Typically, whether it is your first baby or your second, (or your third, fourth, fifth, etc.), it is recommended that women try for one year under the age of 35 year and six months over that age before seeking help.

Dr. Shaun Williams goes into great detail, as well as answers specific questions, concerning weight and body mass index (BMI), maternal age, egg quality, smoking, recreational drugs, stress, birth control, endometriosis and more. This is a comprehensive conversation, where Dr. Williams takes his time to discuss what infertility, and specifically, secondary infertility causes and treatment are known and understood.

While this is not a very high tech video, shot at a live presentation with very light editing, and it's long, it's worth your time to listen. At minute 18 or so, (the video is 34.50 minutes long), Dr. Williams brings up how a cesarean section and/or scar tissues may affect a subsequent pregnancy. At 20 minutes in, Dr. Williams discusses different birth control methods and which are the best choices. He also dispels certain misinformation out there about how the birth control pill does or does not protect or prolong your fertile years.

Listening to this video may bring up more questions for you. Have a pad of paper or a word document open and write down questions as you think of them.
