There’s a crack in the enclosure that holds secrets about infertility. If you’re struggling with conceiving, you know about the secrets.
We don’t say them out loud- that’s how they stay secrets. They’re too scary. And it makes them too real to say them out loud.
I’m breaking the silence today.
Here’s one secret that we believe to be true.
We think infertility is the worst thing that will ever happen to us.
I wish that were true. Sometimes it is true and you or I will go on to live a life that is not affected deeply by other illnesses or disasters. Or tragedies. And maybe it’s also true that it’s about how we react and respond to the natural course of a life cycle that will color how we see our lives. It is expected that our parents will eventually die. We can hate it. We can do everything we can do to prolong their lives. Still, part of our life cycle, the ending part, is that we die. If we’re lucky? We die at a ripe old age and we are mourned by the younger generations. We die after having lived a life that suits us and that we feel satisfied with and we die in relative peace.
Infertility can be the worst thing that ever happens to you. I actually hope that’s true. And we are 1,000% here to help you through it, to conquer it. And then we will hope that it will be behind you as the worst part of your life.
This week, today, we are mourning the loss of people who did not die from old age. They died from the triple disease of hatred, ignorance and bigotry.
Nelba Márquez-Greene, LMFT was Ana Grace’s mother. Ana died in the Newtown tragedy. Her mother’s comments here will precede the names of those that died in Orlando this week.
“Orlando, I’m sorry that our tragedy wasn’t enough to save your loved ones.”
Remembering their names here today to honor their lives.

Today, we acknowledge the incredible loss of those lives and all the lives that they touched. We send love and support to partners and spouses, parents, children, siblings, friends. We mourn for the way in which they died. We mourn for their unfinished lives. We mourn for the hatred and ignorance that continues to perpetuate these tragedies.
