Medical Monday is a bit of a rant today.
Or maybe it’s a plea.
It’s a good possibility if you are reading this that you are having trouble conceiving a baby. Or have had trouble conceiving a baby. Infertility and fertility treatment take a lot of focus and attention. There are big decisions to make; there are many smaller details that need to be attended to around those big decisions. Every step of the way, there are choices and decisions that need to be acted upon.
Even if infertility is not in your life now, (or ever), we all get caught up in our lives and our challenges.
And our joys.
Maybe you are reading this and you are out there with a long sought after baby who has finally arrived.
This is for you too.
And it’s for those of your out there who have completed your families.
This is so big, it fits the word colossal.
Here it is: go to the dentist.
I hope you smiled.
Go to the podiatrist if you need one. Get your eyes checked if you are due.
When’s the last time you had a physical, with a complete check up?
Are you supposed to see the dermatologist on a regular basis?
This is about taking care of all of you. The whole you.
Don't Let Infertility Control You
We forget about the bigger picture. It’s what we do. We forget. We get caught up in our fertility treatment cycles or life.
Fertility treatment can be all-consuming, with doctors appointments, medications and procedures. Maybe it’s not forgetting, it’s about narrowing our focus so that we can do what is absolutely necessary. We get that. I get that.
This isn’t about shaming.
It’s about caring.
We know that you are not walking infertility diagnoses. We also know that sometimes we feel that way.
When I say we, I mean Reproductive Medicine Associate of Connecticut, (RMACT). I mean me. I mean all the successful patients who now have babies and who are still supporting those still trying to have their babies. I mean the readers of PathtoFertility who are our friends and relatives. I mean the professionals in the field who contribute their expertise or advice here.
There’s a lot in the word "we" here. We are here for you. We get it. We understand. Because we’ve been through it too.
And one thing we understand is the focus and determination that fertility treatment takes. #TwoFertileWords Focus & Determination.
Take Care of Your Whole Self
And all I’m suggesting here, reminding you about is that you, and I, need to take care of our whole selves.
So today, I’m going for a physical. And by the end of January, I will have a mammogram.
Because that’s how I need to take care of my whole self.
Oh, yeah, and the dentist too.
Who do you need to see? What do you need to do?
Tomorrow will be a rant, I mean a blog, about other things that “we” all can be doing to take better care of our whole selves.
We. All of us.
You are not alone.
