You can have fun and be fertility friendly in these next several weeks as summer starts to cool off and becomes fall.

Many of the festivals that are so prevalent this time a year are free- easy on the finances, especially if you're in fertility treatment. While there will be plenty of fried foods, there are colorful and delicious fruits and veggies that are ripening as well. Eating healthy things, walking around, free activities- those choices are all fertility friendly. Add into the mix that such healthy living will help you sleep more deeply and you will get to know that you have scored high on the fertility score sheet.

Choices to Maximize Your Health & Fertility

Four fertility friendly choices that you can make every day:

  1. Eat colorful food– buy organic and local when you can. Colorful foods will help supply the nutrients that you need before, during and after a pregnancy.
  2. Get moderate exercise. Walking for 20 minutes twice a day (or once a day if that's what you can squeeze in), will stimulate your metabolism. Exercise may make you feel tired in a really good way. It can also give you more energy and make you feel more alive.
  3. Have good sleep hygiene. Turn things off an hour before bedtime. The TV, the computer, the phone. Have an old fashioned conversation or read an actual book. This can be a challenging one- the benefits may make you realize how worth it it is to turn off. Try it for the month of September.
  4. Finally, pay attention to your breath. For one minute in the morning and one at night, breathe in. Breathe out. Set your timer on your phone. One minute of full attention to your breath twice a day can reduce the stress that so many of us feel during fertility treatment.
