Babies? Maybe you're ready. Or maybe you're not. You may not know right now if you ever want to have children. What you do want to know is that the option to choose later in your life is there.
When it comes to fertility testing for women or testing a woman's fertility reserve, seeing how likely they will get pregnant easily, there are three important reasons why testing for Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) is more effective and efficient than testing for Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). These two tests have one thing in common; they are both simple blood tests. After that, they part company.
Why AMH Testing is More Effective Than FSH Testing
Three reasons why if you have to choose one fertility test to indicate fertility, pick AMH.
- AMH can be checked on any day of a woman's reproductive cycle (FSH needs to be checked on day three, day one being the first day of menstrual flow).
- AMH can be tested for regardless of birth control use at the time. Being on the birth control pill, or having an IUD or any form of long or short term birth control will not affect your AMH results.
- AMH is a more sensitive and accurate test.
Fertility Knowlegde is Power
In the best of all possible worlds, if you are having trouble conceiving, both AMH and FSH will be checked. If you are not even trying to become pregnant yet, but know that you want children in the future, AMH is the choice that will give you information without interrupting your birth control methods and that can be done at any time.
Knowledge is power .The results to an AMH test can be very reassuring and informative about your future family building options.
