Summer Distractions from Fertility TreatmentWhether you are taking time off from fertility treatment cycles, waiting for results from a fertility treatment cycle, waiting to start a fertility treatment cycle, waiting until your insurance company approves your next fertility treatment cycle, saving up for your next fertility treatment cycle, trying to decide what your next fertility treatment cycle should be- there is a common thread. Or two common threads.

One. You’re waiting. You may be actively waiting or you may simply be waiting.

Two. It’s taking up a lot of your time and energy to wait. Maybe you are the rare individual who can put it out of their mind for big chunks of time. Many of us can’t do that easily or effectively.

Summer Distractions from Fertility Treatment

Here are some summer distractions from fertility treatment. While I’m not a big fan of distractions, (I’d also like to suggest meditation, yoga, mindfulness as ways of clearing the clutter out of your mind), let’s recognize that summer offers unique and robust possibilities for pleasant and even healthy distractions.

Fun distractions. Remember fun?

There are hikes, beaches, fairs, museums, and all sorts of adventures, right in your hometown or very close by. If you are in Connecticut, a great place to start looking for distractions is www.CTvist.com.

There are many activities listed there. If you are looking for hyper local, try checking out the HamletHub in your town or a neighboring town that you are interested in.

Distractions serve a deeper purpose other than just getting your mind off waiting. Doing something that is interesting will engage your brain and create new connections and interest. Activities done with a partner or friend can also give you something to discuss outside of the dreaded fertility subject.

If only for a little while, find something to do that suits you and immerse yourself into it.

Would you please be kind enough to share with us your wonderful ideas?

I’ll go first.

One of my favorites, up in my neck of the woods is the Edmondtown Hall Movie Theatre. A big, old style movie theatre that plays the movies that I invariably missed a month or so ago. Best thing about the movie theatre, other than the big screen, large viewing area and fairly comfortable seats? It’s two bucks.

I will give you a hint though. As nice as everyone is at the concession booth, the popcorn gets a solid C plus from me. Not my favorite!

Share with me what you like in your area. I’ll share it here, anonymously. We’d all like some summer fun distractions.

Especially while we’re waiting.
