A moment of hope. That unexpected flash that you recognize, in the middle of nothing special, nearly off in the edge of your consciousness, that you feel hope.
For no reason. You just simply do.
Hope is there, despite all the disappointments, frustrations and losses. Despite betrayals, hope puts itself forth.
Do you recognize when you see it? As a moment of lightness? As a breath of relief amidst all the heavy circumstances?
Do you come screeching down upon it, thrashing it so it’s obliterated? Rather than feel another disappointment?
Can you allow yourself, even invite yourself, into every moment’s experience so that you can recognize hope as your heart’s way of easing itself? Letting your heart’s truest message become so buoyant that it’s a brilliant stream?
We are not hopeless. If we were, we would not try again. We would not attempt fertility treatment. We would give up. That’s hopeless.
Hopeful is trying again. It’s going for the lower than we’d hoped for odds and trying anyway. It’s recognizing the magnitude of our losses and deciding that the gain of becoming a parent is worth the possible, even probable, heartbreak in trying. Hope lives when we take those steps towards our family.
Hope is those unexpected moments of pleasure. That smile that peeks out when your ears hear something that pleases them or your eyes notice a momentary beauty.
