Adoption is a way to build your family.
If you are in fertility treatment, you are likely not also considering adoption. Good reason as it can feel like climbing Mount Everest, with no oxygen, to have to consider adoption while trying to navigate the world of fertility treatment. Another language that is almost indecipherable, another set of hurdles to jump that feel like they’re getting higher and higher, more and different paperwork, all while putting so much into becoming pregnant, can simply be too much.
We know that.
We also know that, just like with third party reproductive options, coming to terms with not having a DNA connection to your child is a piece that needs to be investigated first, before exploring adoption. Skipping the step of examining your feelings about not having that specific genetic or biological relationship with your child is not to your benefit and certainly not to your eventual child’s benefit. However they may enter your life.
Embracing Adoption After Infertility
