Infertility News: Foods to Increase Fertility
I don't tweet a lot of infertility news. Basically, I am just learning how to tweet. And why I should tweet. And why I should want to tweet.
I don't really want to tweet.
One good thing is that as I go along, I like it better. I think.
Yesterday, I got a great tweet from ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine) about foods to increase fertility. The tweet talked about men eating raspberries to increase their fertility.
Now, to be fair, we women are also supposed to eat raspberries, for many of the same, healthy fertility reasons.
I get that.
Still, in my twisted little brain, here's the message I recieved.
Responsibilities in Fertility Treatment
Many men's responsibilities in fertllity treatment is to masterbate and "produce" semen samples for use in IUI or IVF. And I've written quite a few blogs on how this can actually be daunting (think, ladies, about lying on a table in a doctor's office and "having" to have an orgasm). And there are quite a few procedures that are much more painful and/or invasive than having to masterbate. I know that. You know that.
No one talks about us women masterbating or having an orgasm. In fact, a lot of times, we're told NOT to have sex. Much less enjoy it. At least for a while.
But this blog isn't about sex. Or orgasms.
It's about the raspberries.
No idea of why that pushed me over the edge, but it did.
I love raspberries. Love them. Savor them, let them melt in my mouth, with my eyes closed. One of my favorite treats, on a very regular basis. My husband brings them home, knowing they will bring a smile to my face. Better than diamonds! (OK, not better, but less expensive and more realistic on a day to day basis.)
Yesterday, I got a tweet from ASRM that men should eat raspberries.
Did I mention that this was from ASRM? The medical group that helps regulate the field of reproductive medicine and fertility treatment?
I started laughing. I did. Out loud.
The Desire for Simplicity
I wanted a message to eat raspberries. Forget the injections, the pills, all the fertility medications. Forget the ultrasounds and numerous blood draws. Forget the bruises from injecting all the medications. Forget all the doctors appointments, early in the morning. Forget the surgical procedures. The anesthesia. Forget the side effects of bloating and irritability. Forget the time lost from work. Forget all that stuff.
And do what?
That's the directive I want.
A great cure for almost anything.
Way better than all that other stuff we have to do to become pregnant when fertility is a challenge.
I'd have loved to have put down all those other things listed above.
We all would.
We would all prefer to have a lovely sexy evening with our partner and conceive a baby.
No one that I have ever met has wanted to go to a doctor to create their family.
Still, we do it. Because we want our families so very much.
That takes a lot of strength and courage. On all our parts, and of course on the men's parts as well. Of course it does.
I'd love someone to tell me to put down the needles, the medications, the doctors appointments, the medical procedures.
And simply eat the raspberries.
