Trying to Conceive and Living Our Stories
Our stories are not all that different.
We expect that some of what we want will come true. We prioritize our efforts.
Even narrow down and eliminate choices, because after all we can't have everything.
We can't put the energy, time and other resources into everything that piques our interest.
We focus on what we really desire.
Our families. Our children.
Our desire to become parents.
And it can become all consuming.
Raise your hand if the word obsession comes to mind.
I admit it. I became obsessed. My focus became narrower and narrower.
I threw everything I had into trying to conceive.
Carefully Navigating the Fertility Treatment Road
I read constantly. I looked at the Internet every chance that I had. I attended every conference in a three state vicinity. I asked questions of others who had gone through fertility treatments before me.
I wrote questions down for my doctor before I had appointments and left several lines to write down the answers. I followed up my appointments with phone calls to ask yet more questions that came up after I left the office.
I covered it all. Brought my full attention and focus.
Does that sound crazy to you?
Either way, as you bring your own particular brand of focus (obsession) to creating your family, I have one piece of advice.
Don't judge yourself. Do what you need to do and don't worry too much about how crazy it may look from the outside. Your focus may be exactly what you need to have all your dreams come true.
