RMACT Joins RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association®for Advocacy Day in Washington, DC

by Reproductive Medicine Associates of CT Care Team

Norwalk, CT, May 07, 2014

Dr. Spencer Richlin of Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT) will meet with Connecticut representatives Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, and Congressman Jim Himes to discuss infertility and The Family Act (H.R. 3522). Dr. Richlin is taking part of Advocacy Day with hundreds of Americans and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association on Capitol Hill to voice their struggles with infertility, including its emotional, physical, and financial impact on patients’ lives.

During his meetings with Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, and Congressman Jim Himes, Dr. Richlin will discuss The Family Act, a proposed legislation that would allow more people to afford in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments, allow wounded vets to seek IVF treatment to build their family, and advocate for the Adoption Tax Credit to remain permanent.

“My patients are courageous and resilient in the face of infertility, but they need support,” says Dr. Richlin, a Board Certified reproductive endocrinologist. “Everyday my team and I help our patients by providing them with the medical and emotional tools that will help them successfully build their families. And now we are asking Congress to support them through The Family Act.”

In addition to its presence in Washington D.C., RMACT has been encouraging patients to take part in a letter writing campaign. According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 7.3 million Americans, or 1 in 8 couples of childbearing, age are infertile. Advocacy Day is an opportunity for patients around the country to unite by telling their stories and making an appeal for support through this important legislation.

RMACT Launches Website for Spanish-Speaking Infertility Patients

by Katie Gaines

Fertility Practice Creates Website for Hispanic Audience

NORWALK, CT (April 30, 2013) – Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT), Fairfield County’s leading fertility practice and egg donation center, is launching a new website for Spanish-speaking infertility patients. Fairfield County’s Hispanic population, which is about 161,106 people or 17.4% of the County’s total population (925,899)[1], would benefit from a Spanish language fertility center website.

The new website, which can be found by clicking on the Spanish flag at www.rmact.com, contains over 100 pages of information about infertility, treatments and even a glossary of infertility terms. Like RMACT’s main website, this website has a section that outlines what new patients can expect during their first visits, including a consultation with a reproductive endocrinologist and diagnostic testing. It also describes a range of treatment options, ranging from non-invasive paths such as nutrition counseling to sophisticated procedures such as vitro fertilization (IVF) and Comprehensive Chromosome Screening (CCS), or as they known in Spanish, Fecundación in vitro and Cribado pancromosómico.

“For many of our patients, online research is their first step to learning about infertility and to making a plan for starting a family,” says Dr. Mark Leondires, Medical Director of RMACT. “We hope that this website can help Spanish-speaking patients understand their options and help them feel less isolated. It is important for patients to have a firm understanding of their diagnosis and to feel confident in their treatment plan.”

RMACT believes all patients benefit from learning about infertility, treatment options and how their overall health affects their chances of successfully getting pregnant. In addition to written and online materials, RMACT offers seminars, peer support groups, Fertile Yoga classes and teach classes for patients whose treatment includes injections.  In 2012, RMACT hosted 32 seminars for patients and the general public with topics that included nutrition, reproductive health, stress management, preconception health and infertility factors for men and women.
