Infertility Basics- What Does Infertility Mean?

Infertility Basics- doesn't that depend on where you are starting from? Where you are in the process? Infertility Basics- How Do You Know if You're Experiencing Infertility?

Definition of infertility- have not conceived after having properly timed sexual intercourse in one year.

That's my definition. I believe it's pretty close and substantively correct when it comes to a definition of infertility and human beings in our society. I could have looked it up but chose instead to use what is a good working definition.

I like to consider the meanings of words and language.  This definition makes me wonder about a few things.

What do you call someone who conceives after 13 months? Or after 3 years? Are they still infertile? Or sub fertile? Or having recovered from infertility?

Do you consider that someone who used simpler, less invasive treatment and is successful infertile?

Do you consider the 42 or 48 or 52 year old infertile?

Do you consider someone who is infertile and can't afford treatment more infertile than someone who can afford treatment and is successful?

Infertility Basics would all depend on where you are starting from. If you're wanting to expand your family and you're not conceiving, maybe it doesn't matter what you call it as long as you seek help.

This week, we have the honor of having patients writing guest blogs. They have their own unique voices and points of view. Hear what they have to say, in their own words.
