I understand that there's a thaw coming this weekend, in the middle of some pretty whacky weather. Sunday on the east coast of the United States is supposed to be close to fifty degrees. No, this is not your friendly neighborhood weather report. It's your friendly neighborhood
fertility blog alerting you that the weather is looking good for spending some time outside this weekend.
I'm a big believer in outside. Sounds so silly. This whole blog today might sound a little silly. I love the winter and the snow, but there's something about the promise of spring that raises the silliness level, elevates feelings of hope, and generally brings on a feeling of well-being. I do spend time outside all winter and I enjoy it thoroughly. If you have been feeling cooped up all winter because you do not feel the same way, here's your chance to emerge from your cocoon! If infertility treatment has caused you to become more sedentary, than you may have been inside even more than usual this winter. After all, while you are in the middle of an infertility cycle, you may have ramped down your exercise level, you may have given up the ski or beach vacation, you may have cut back on your walking.
One of Dr. Leondires' favorite words is magical. I was surprised to find that out, however if you check out one of his earlier blogs, you will find it there, shining. That's how I feel about being outside and getting fresh air. The connection to the real world, feeling the actual temperature on your skin, breathing in air that has not been recycled, heated or cooled is magical. And restorative. And healthy beyond the physical. Whatever spiritual or religious beliefs you hold, the power of the earth is vital and real and easily accessible by simply being part of it. By stepping outside and allowing yourself to feel part of something bigger.
Haiti and Chile are both experiencing the utter shock and devastation of the earth's power. No one in either of those countries have any doubt about how much bigger the power of the world is than they are. We are lucky enough to be enjoying mild, gentle, calm weather, and on Sunday, with a promise of warmth and sweetness. Every walk that I've taken in the last week, I've dedicated to Chile and the people there living through such upheaval. Sending them peaceful thoughts, love and compassion.
Why not join me this Sunday for a walk? Clear your head? Move outside of yourself? Leave your brain at home and move into the more physical being and then let that go too? Let yourself notice all the beautiful things that are to notice even on a walk that you've been on many times. Find something you have not noticed before and appreciate it.
And if that's too much for you, drag a chair outside, bundle up, point the chair towards the sun, close your eyes and soak in the vitamin D. Relax and enjoy the sounds, smells and feel of the larger world around you.
