A Weekend for Healthy Families
Whew, what a weekend! Two events for healthy families kept us busy and smiling at the end of National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW). At the Stamford Hospital Fairfield County Women's Expo, I spent the weekend with RMACT's Norwalk and Stamford patient coordinators talking to women about fertility, infertility, babies and PCOS.
Cori, Justine, Melissa and I answered questions and gave out educational materials. More than that, we heard women talking about their fears; about not conceiving; about being too old; about having missed their chance; and about their reproductive health. We heard success stories from patients of ours who stopped by to say hello and from women who had problems years and years ago. While one in six couples have trouble conceiving, it appears that many, many more of us have been touched by infertility, whether it's a friend or family member. Almost everyone knows someone who has struggled. It's a small world.
March of Dimes Walk (Danbury)
Perfect segue into the March of Dimes Walk: small world and healthy babies, healthy mothers, health families. How wonderful to see so many of the RMACT team out there--volunteering, walking, showing their support. Thank you to Tally Jacobs, for the wonderful job that she has done for the past three years, pulling us all together! Check out our Facebook page to see the pictures of our RMACT staff who got up and out early on a Sunday morning to put their muscle behind their hearts. It's not too late to donate to this worthy cause, in case you weren't able to come out and walk.
Next week, on Sunday, May 6, 2012, we walk in Stamford! Please consider joining us or donating or both. Click here to find out how.
Opening Up in Fertile Yoga
Meanwhile, at Fertile Yoga this past week, we women put our heads and hearts together and created some magic. We welcomed new women into the group and found that by opening up, our newcomers were able to find themselves in a place of comfort and understanding that they did not expect.
How good to know that we are not alone.
I wish that someone would discover a way for people to be in two places at once. I know, not very Yogi of me. I should be happy where I am, in the moment, and so on and so forth.
Ok, but I would have liked the capability of being in two places this weekend, with my Reproductive Medicine Associates of CT family (RMACT) at the March of Dimes Walk in Fairfield and also be in Stamford at the Women’s Expo.
I missed the experience of being with them all and they truly do feel like my family these days. Check out some of the pictures. We’ll post more on Facebook in the next day or so, but aren’t they stunning? Despite it being cold, despite having to donate time on a Saturday?
And talk about walking your talk. One healthy embryo, one healthy pregnancy, one healthy baby at a time.
Yes, we are incredibly thankful for our healthy twins and triplets, but we really do hold our breath, cross our fingers and know that they do need extra medical attention often, during the pregnancies and afterwards with the babies. We are so grateful when all goes well, it doesn’t always though.
Special thanks to Tally Jacobs for pulling our team together for the walk. Her organizational skill and whole hearted commitment shines through everything that she does with us and we are so lucky that she is part of the RMACT family.
Dr’s Richlin, Hurwitz and Murdock were all there, walking, talking and sharing their time off. Dr. Richlin, speaking from the heart, led the charge by speaking eloquently, reminding everyone why we were there.
Walking the talk. One healthy pregnancy at a time. One healthy baby at a time.
Dr. Leondires was working in the office and instead spent both Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the Fairfield County Women’s Healthy Expo with me. It was fascinating to hear him speak, especially with a non-profit group about Ovarian Cancer and the NON link to fertility drugs and treatment.
What a dedicated practice. How lucky am I to work with such compassionate and dedicated professionals, who also prove time after time what incredible human beings they are?
Yeah, I’m glowing.
So, while I couldn’t be there in body for the March of Dimes Walk, I was so there in mind and heart, with the RMACT family, walking our walk for healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.
A happy end to National Infertility Awareness Week, with two such wonderful events that are all about family.
This weekend, to celebrate National Infertility Awareness Week, Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut created a team for the March of Dimes Walk in Fairfield CT.

Big week at Reproductive Medicine Associates of CT. Big month, too. In just this past week we had:

- Fertile Yoga, Peer Support Group and Walk- What a lovely treat to have a walk after Fertile Yoga with some of our lovely, brave patients.
- Prenatal Yoga- It works, fertility treatment does work. And so, prenatal yoga now exists- 11:45-12:45 in Norwalk
- Ladies Night in Norwalk- First one, well attended. Carrie Van Steen and I led the group and it was a pleasure, as always, to spend time with out patients. Patients responded that it was a relief, fun and just plain good to be together.
- Ladies Night OUT-Yes, after Fertile Yoga in Brookfield, we went out to Pancho's and Gringoes, right next door and had a great time. Food, conversation, getting to know each other and quite a few good laughs.
- Ladies Night In-Danbury- This Wednesday, Jane Elisofon, MSW, will be leading the group with Carrie Van Steen, looking at Mother's Day. Jane has some wonderful, new ideas on how to manage this very difficult holiday. For current patients only.

We are finishing off National Infertility Awareness (NIAW) week with a bang! We started last weekend with our March of Dime walk, over 40 members on our RMACT team, in the very chilly rain.
Our RMACT Team of over 40 walkers braved the rainy weather on April 25, 2010 to show our dedication to healthy pregnancies.
The Team raised over $4,000!
And through out the week, we have observed in the following ways; a big thank you to our guest blogger, Kristen Magnacca; wonderful, helpful information from RMACT's nutritionist Carolyn Gundell, MS and our readers sharing what they discovered for NIAW, with the poignant video from Keiko Zull.
This coming weekend, we are culminating our observance of NIAW with a weekend at the Fairfield County Women's Expo at the Stamford Plaza Hotel (formerly the Sheraton). The show has 200 exhibits for a unique shopping experience, seminars, fashion shows, health screenings, samples, prizes, national celebrity appearances and entertainment for the entire weekend. Our own Dr. Mark Leondires will be speaking about:
"Life of a Woman: Development from Pre-Teen to Menopause"
Dr. Mark Leondires of Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT) - Fairfield County's largest fertility clinic and egg donation center - will speak about the changes of a woman's body from her pre-teen years through menopause. This interactive presentation and discussion will take place during the Fairfield County Women's Expo on May 1, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. in the Hartford Room of the Stamford Plaza Hotel on Summer Street in downtown Stamford, CT.
The presentation, titled "Life of a Woman: Development from Pre-Teen to Menopause," will discuss how a woman's body evolves - the burgeoning of her reproductive years, her fertility, her post-pregnancy body and the culmination of menopause. The discussion will touch upon the functionality of each stage, as well as how it affects her overall physical health and leads into the next stage of life's cycle.
"One of my passions as a fertility doctor is helping patients understand their bodies," says Dr. Leondires, Medical Director of RMACT. "Fertility is one piece of the puzzle of a woman's body, and understanding how each life stage affects the next helps my patients see the big picture of their overall health."
This is the first-ever Fairfield County Women's Expo, which is produced by Connecticut Expos, and has over 200 exhibits in a range of women's interests from jewelry to beauty to health.
Dr. Leondires is one of 21 exhibitors chosen to speak during the two-day expo. In addition to these seminars and exhibits, the Expo boasts of free health screenings, fashion shows, give aways and celebrity guests that will include Jill Zarin from "The Real Housewives of New York City," James Scott ("E.J. DiMera") of "Days of Our Lives," Lisa Wexler of "The Lisa Wexler Show" and Gloria Kamen, author of Secrets of a Jewish Mother. Connecticut Expos has over 20 years of experience producing consumer and trade events around the country, including Connecticut Women's Expo in Hartford, CT.
